Studying Biochemical Engineering on an undergraduate level at the University of Debrecen (UD) prepares you to be competent in all fields of biotechnology, equipped with a Bachelor of Science degree. Program Overview
 

The program starts in September of each year.
All courses are taught in English; therefore, a B2 level English proficiency is required.
Admission requires a high school certificate and passing entrance exams in Mathematics and either Chemistry or Biology.
This is a 3.5-year program consisting of 7 academic semesters
Students earn 210 ECTS in total (180 from academic modules plus 30 for the professional internship).
The tuition fee for this program is 7,000 USD/Year

What to expect during the program?  

The Biochemical Engineering program at UD is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both theoretical biotechnology and practical engineering skills. Throughout their studies, students gain hands-on experience in laboratory and manufacturing practices that reflect the everyday work of a biochemical engineer. They become familiar with the equipment and apparatus used in the biotechnological industry and learn how to operate them efficiently and optimally.

Is there an internship incorporated into the program?

Yes, a core component of the degree is a 6-week practice at a company or research institute related to engineering. This ensures that our graduates are ready for the global market.

What are the career prospects after graduating?

Graduates can choose from a wide range of career opportunities in different areas of biotechnology according to their field of interest. They can choose to work either in theoretical or practical areas. They will also have the opportunity to work in the field of research and development.
 


 

How can I enroll in the program?

Studying at the University of Debrecen puts you on the path towards an internationally recognized European degree. Our admission process consists of online written and oral exams to assess your academic potential. We also offer a variety of academic scholarships and merit-based tuition fee discounts.  

What are the language requirements for Biochemical Engineering, Bsc?

Applicants must have an English proficiency of at least B2 level as the program is fully taught in English. For your information, this is equivalent to:

  • a TOEFL test with a minimum score of 513 (Paper-Based).
  • an IELTS test with a minimum score of 5.5.

Please note, that you are not strictly required to have a language exam certificate, your language skills will be assessed during the entrance interview.

Is there an entrance exam for Biochemical Engineering, Bsc?

Yes, admission is based on a high school certificate and online entrance exams in mathematics and Chemistry or Biology.

Until when can I apply for the program?

Please note that the BSc in Biochemical Engineering operates on a single-cycle academic calendar. This program only starts in September of each year. The application deadline is 15th June.

How much does it cost to study Biochemical Engineering at the University of Debrecen?

The tuition fee is 7,000 USD / year for this program.

This is supplemented by the application fee of $150 USD (one-time) and the entrance procedure fee of $350 USD that covers the examination and interview. Please note that the application and entrance procedure fees are non-refundable and must be paid via bank transfer to initiate the review process.

What scholarships are available at the University of Debrecen?
