The aim of the Environmental Engineering BSc program at the University of Debrecen (UD) is to train professionals capable of protecting the environment, ensuring sustainability, and preventing and managing environmental damage. The program emphasizes sustainable resource use, energy efficiency, environmental protection technologies, and reducing pollution and waste management.

Program Overview

 
The program starts in September of each year.
 
All courses are taught in English; therefore, a B2 level English proficiency is required.
 
Admission requires a high school certificate and passing entrance exams in Mathematics and Chemistry or Physics.
 
This is a 3.5-year program consisting of 7 academic semesters
 
Students earn 210 ECTS in total.
 
The tuition fee for this program is 7,500 USD/Year

What to expect during the program?  

At the Environmental Engineering BSc at the University of Debrecen, students learn methods for analyzing, monitoring, and regulating environmental systems, as well as engineering solutions to environmental problems. The course structure transitions from foundational sciences like mathematics and chemistry in the first year to specialized topics such as waste management, air quality protection, and environmental law in the later stages.

Is there an internship incorporated into the program?

Yes, there is a compulsory 6-week practice that needs to be completed at a company.  

What are the career prospects after graduating?

Graduates in environmental engineering are highly versatile and can find employment across a wide range of sectors. In the industrial sector, they may work on implementing sustainable practices, reducing emissions, and managing waste. In government roles, they contribute to environmental policy development, regulatory compliance, and public health initiatives. Additionally, in research institutions or private consultancies, they focus on developing innovative environmental technologies and conducting environmental impact assessments to support sustainable development.

 

 

How can I enroll in the program?

Earning a degree at the University of Debrecen in Hungary provides an EU-accredited qualification recognized across the globe. The admission process is conducted entirely online, featuring written and oral entrance exams designed to evaluate subject-specific knowledge and personal motivation. We also offer a variety of academic merit-based scholarships for our students.

What are the language requirements for Environmental Engineering BSc?

Applicants must have an English proficiency of at least B2 level as the program is fully taught in English. For your information, this is equivalent to:

  • a TOEFL test with a minimum score of 513 (Paper-Based).
  • an IELTS test with a minimum score of 5.5.

Please note, that you are not strictly required to have a language exam certificate, your language skills will be assessed during the entrance interview.

 

Is there an entrance exam for Environmental Engineering, BSc?

Yes, admission is based on a high school certificate and online entrance exams in Mathematics and Chemistry or Physics.

Until when can I apply for the program?

Please note that the BSc in Environmental Engineering operates on a single-cycle academic calendar. This program only starts in September of each year. The application deadline is 15th June.

How much does it cost to study Environmental Engineering at the University of Debrecen?

The tuition fee is 7,500 USD / year for this program.

This is supplemented by the application fee of $150 USD (one-time) and the entrance procedure fee of $350 USD that covers the examination and interview. Please note that the application and entrance procedure fees are non-refundable and must be paid via bank transfer to initiate the review process.
