The program starts in September of each year.
 

All courses are taught in French; therefore, a B2 level French proficiency is required.

 
Admission requires a high school certificate and an entrance examination in French (oral, via electronic communication)
 
This is a 3-year program consisting of 6 academic semesters.
 
Students earn 180 ECTS in total.

During the University of Debrecen’s French Studies, BA, the aim of the program is to provide our students with a range of practical skills and theoretical tools in the area of French language, cultures and literatures so that they can utilise and adapt their acquired knowledge in relevant fields in their future job.

Is there an internship incorporated into the program?

No, there is no built-in internship during the BA program. Students have to take Optional courses for 10 credits (any course offered by UD) as well as 2 semesters of physical education.

 

What are the career prospects after graduating?

Graduates are able to work in business and governmental organizations, media, publishing, tourism, diplomacy, etc. Graduated students holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American studies are eligible for admission to the English studies MA and American studies MA programs.

 

 

How can I enroll in the program?

Earning a degree at the University of Debrecen in Hungary provides an EU-accredited qualification recognized across the globe. The admission process is conducted entirely online, featuring written and oral entrance exams designed to evaluate subject-specific knowledge and personal motivation. We also offer a variety of academic merit-based scholarships for our students.

 

What are the language requirements Romance Philology and Cultures (French Studies), BA?

Applicants must have an French proficiency of at least B2 level as the program is fully taught in French. For your information, this is equivalent to:

  • a TOEFL test with a minimum score of 513 (Paper-Based).
  • an IELTS test with a minimum score of 5.5.

Please note, that you are not strictly required to have a language exam certificate, your language skills will be assessed during the entrance interview.

 

Is there an entrance exam for French Studies, BA?

Yes, to gain admission to the BA program, applicants must complete a two-stage evaluation.

First, candidates take an online written exam covering grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and essay writing. Upon passing the written portion, applicants proceed to an online oral interview during which a committee of two examiners from IEAS will engage the candidate in a free conversation on everyday topics.

Until when can I apply for the program?

Please note that the BA in Romance Philology and Cultures (French Studies) operates on a single-cycle academic calendar. This program only starts in September of each year. The application deadline is 15th June.

How much does it cost to study Romance Philology and Cultures (French Studies), BA at the University of Debrecen?

The tuition fee is 6,000 USD / year for this program.

This is supplemented by the application fee of $150 USD (one-time) and the entrance procedure fee of $350 USD that covers the examination and interview. Please note that the application and entrance procedure fees are non-refundable and must be paid via bank transfer to initiate the review process.
