The Computer Science, BSc program at the University of Debrecen (UD) provides students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to design, develop, implement, operate, and maintain software-oriented IT systems and devices, both independently and as members of professional teams. Graduates entering the job market are well prepared to develop and manage mobile, desktop, server-side, web, and multimedia applications, as well as complex IT systems.

All courses are taught in English; therefore, a B2 level English proficiency is required.

Admission requires a high school certificate; and passing a written and oral entrance exam in Mathematics.

What to expect during the program?  

 

Throughout their studies, students learn how to effectively apply their theoretical knowledge in practical IT environments. The curriculum places strong emphasis on hands-on experience, includes a mandatory internship, and offers a wide range of specialized subjects.

Students gain the ability to design, analyze, and implement algorithms using the most important programming paradigms, while also becoming familiar with fundamental software development methodologies and technologies. They develop competencies in data modelling and system design, as well as in creating, managing, and modifying databases. In addition, they acquire practical knowledge of SQL and learn to apply the methods and tools of artificial intelligence, logical programming, distributed systems, and web development. Is there an internship incorporated into the program?

Yes, students must complete an 8-week internship either at the university working on research projects or at a multinational or local company.

What are the career prospects after graduating as Computer Scientist?

Computer Science BSc graduates can find positions asf junior software developers at software development companies where C, C++, Java, Javascript, C#, .NET, PHP, Python, SQL, etc. are required. The theoretical and practical knowledge that students acquire during their studies makes it possible for them to start MSc courses. The ones who decide to start working after graduation will most likely develop and operate mobile, desktop, server web and multimedia applications and IT systems.

In some years, after gaining practical experience they can become senior software developers, or they can specialize in different fields such as mobile development, databases, IT system programming, graphics development, game programming, etc. In the long run they can be promoted to management positions provided they are suitable for such positions and they take part in post-graduate trainings.

 

 

How can I enroll in the program?

Our admission process consists of online written and oral exams to assess your academic potential. We also offer a variety of academic scholarships and merit-based tuition fee discounts.  

What are the language requirements for Computer Science, BSc?

Applicants must have an English proficiency of at least B2 level as the program is fully taught in English. For your information, this is equivalent to:

  • a TOEFL test with a minimum score of 513 (Paper-Based).
  • an IELTS test with a minimum score of 5.5.

Please note, that you are not strictly required to have a language exam certificate, your language skills will be assessed during the entrance interview.

 

Is there an entrance exam for Computer Science, BSc?

Yes, admission is based on a high school certificate and online written and oral entrance exams in Mathematics.

Until when can I apply for the program?

Please note that the BSc in Computer Science operates on a single-intake academic calendar. This program only starts in September of each year. The application deadline in the self-financed procedure is 15th June.

How much does it cost to study Computer Science, BSc at the University of Debrecen?

The tuition fee is 7,000 USD / year for this program.

This is supplemented by the application fee of $150 USD (one-time) and the entrance procedure fee of $350 USD that covers the examination and interview. Please note that the application and entrance procedure fees are non-refundable and must be paid via bank transfer to initiate the review process.

What scholarships are available at the University of Debrecen?

We offer a variety of academic scholarships and merit-based tuition fee discounts. Depending on your home country's regulations you might apply for federal loan while studying abroad as well.
