Program Overview

 
The program starts in September and February of each year.
 
All courses are taught in English; therefore, an Upper-B2 level English proficiency is required.
 

Admission requires a BSc diploma in earth sciences or in a related discipline in natural, human or information sciences.

 
This is a 2-year program consisting of 4 academic semesters.
 
Students earn 120 ECTS in total.
 
The tuition fee for this program is 7,500 USD/Year

What to expect during the program?

The program provides specialized geography knowledge in the fields of environmental science, renewable energy, and geoinformatics.

Students will learn:

  • the most up-to-date software and hardware for spatial data collection, analysis, and visualization including both the statistical and cartography aspects;
  • how to exploit the benefits of renewable energy (solar, geothermic and wind); knowledge of measuring devices, energy calculation methods;
  • processes of the landscapes; environmental evaluation techniques; nature protection and policy; environmental quality assurance/control.

Within the MSc in Geography, students can choose between two specialisations: Landscape and environmental research, Renewable energy

Is there an internship incorporated into the program?

Yes, Students should complete a 6-week field practice.

What are the language requirements for Geography, MSc?

Applicants must have an English proficiency of at least Upper-Intermediate /B2 level as the program is fully taught in English. For your information, this is equivalent to:

  • a TOEFL test with a minimum score of 547 (Paper-Based).
  • an IELTS test with a minimum score of 6.0.

Please note, that you are not strictly required to have a language exam certificate, your language skills will be assessed during the entrance interview.

 

Is there an entrance exam for Geography, MSc?

Students applying to our graduate programs will participate in an interview where we assess their motivation, personal skills, and English proficiency.

Until when can I apply for the program?

Please note that the MSc in Geography operates on a double-intake academic calendar. This program starts both in September and February of each year. The application deadline in the self-financed procedure is 15th June for the September intake, and 15th November for the February intake.

How much does it cost to study Geography, MSc at the University of Debrecen?

The tuition fee is 7,500 USD/year for this program.

This is supplemented by the application fee of $150 USD (one-time) and the entrance procedure fee of $350 USD that covers the examination and interview. Please note that the application and entrance procedure fees are non-refundable and must be paid via bank transfer to initiate the review process.
