The possibility of establishing a BA in Mandarin Chinese has been discussed 04. Jul. 2025

The mission of CLEC (Chinese Language Education Center) includes the establishment of and professional support for Confucius Institutes in a variety of countries in the world, as well as the exploration and implementation of opportunities for the establishment of Mandarin Chinese programs at universities outside China.

The Chinese delegation was led by General Director Yu Yunfeng, and its members first took a tour of the Main Building, where they also watched part of the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UD.

Next, the Chinese visitors, including the representatives of the companies EVE Power Hungary, SEMCORP Hungary and CATL, were welcomed in the Rector's Council Chamber by Károly Pető, Vice-Rector for General Affairs of UD, Róbert Keményfi, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, and Okszána Kiszil, Director of Coordination and Strategy at UD, as well as the Chinese and Hungarian Directors of the Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities.

At the meeting that ensued, the participants were informed about the educational and academic activities conducted at our institution, its program and course offerings, the achievements of the institution in the field of teaching Chinese language and culture, and the possibilities of introducing Chinese language and culture as a BA program at the University of Debrecen.

“This would make it possible to further expand the already existing and very popular Chinese language instruction opportunities, which are available to all UD students, Hungarian and international alike, while it would also enrich the already profuse language training offers at the Faculty of Humanities with a degree program that is considered quite unique in Hungarian higher education,” said Róbert Keményfi to hirek.unideb.hu after the meeting.

The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at UD also underlined the fact that the number of those who had already been introduced to Chinese in the context of university education in Debrecen was close to a thousand at the end of the past semester.

Following the meeting, the Chinese guests visited the Faculty of Humanities, where they met and had professional negotiations with the directors of the Confucius Institute, Local Director Pál Csontos and Chinese Director Cui Xianjun, as well as with the members of the Hungarian and Chinese teaching staff.
