In its foreign relations activities, the University of Debrecen attaches a special role to the countries of the region, which forms a bridge between Europe and Asia, as is clearly shown by the fact that this year alone we have signed agreements with 20 higher education institutions in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan - emphasised Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector, on the occasion of the handover of the Turkic Corner.
According to the university leader, the new community space can play an important role in deepening the institution's relations with Central Asia and will provide an opportunity to expand and extend them.
- We are happy to welcome students from Central Asian countries as we offer them more than 100 English language courses. The university has a unique training potential thanks to its industrial cooperation system, which provides exceptional opportunities for young people interested in the automotive, pharmaceutical, agricultural and food industries," said Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of the University of Debrecen, at the opening of Turkic Corner.
Levente Takács, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, pointed out that language teaching is one of the main focus areas of the Faculty of Humanities' educational activities, but so far Turkish has been missing from the institution's broad portfolio.
- The newly inaugurated centre could be a catalyst for the exchange of cultural knowledge. Our faculty will offer more English-language training to young people from Central Asian countries," added the head of the faculty.
According to Kiszil Okszána, Director of Coordination and Strategy, the Turkic Corner can act as a hub at the University of Debrecen, linking the institution with the countries, their representatives, partner institutions in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, further strengthening existing links.
The event was attended by Mr Said Ali Alijonov, Consul of Uzbekistan in Hungary, Mr Seymur Abdullayev, Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary, Mr Yermek Zhylkaidarov, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr Kanat Ydyrys, as well as Mr Valijon Khoshimov, Project Director of the Turkic Council in Budapest and Mr Erkan Külekci, Counsellor of the Education Office at the Embassy of Turkey in Budapest.
Representatives from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan welcomed the idea of a community space, which is unique in our country. In their opinion, the Turkic Corner, besides promoting historical monuments, culture, language and traditions, will open the door to other educational institutions in their countries, help to expand economic relations, and build cooperation and collaboration.
More than five hundred students from Central Asian countries are currently studying at the University of Debrecen.
