Medals from the Medical Championship 15. Aug. 2024

The University of Debrecen was represented by three competitors in the championship. One of them was Kinga Bágyi, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and leader of the DEAC women’s tennis team. Even though her preparation was hindered by injuries and illness, she won as many as four medals. She won gold in doubles alongside Katrin Bermoser, and silver in the 50+ singles category and in mixed doubles with László Orosz. She won a medal in the Nations’ Cup too, by winning third place with the Hungarian women’s team.

“My preparation was short this year, because I suffered an elbow injury in September, a rib fracture in February and then a viral infection. So, I was able to train for only two months out of the twelve. Considering this, my result is beyond expectation. I thank my partners for the game, and the organizers and officials for the event”, Kinga Bágyi said.

László Orosz, assistant professor at the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine and at the Surgery Clinic of the Clinical Centre and a player of the DEAC Old Boys also had an excellent performance at the prestigious event. As mentioned above, he won silver with Kinga Bágyi in mixed doubles, and he also won third place with Péter Rák in the 55+ men’s doubles. In addition, he was in the Hungarian men’s team that won the Nations’ Cup.
Another successful participant was István Szentkirályi who won gold in the 80+ men’s doubles alongside Gábor Veress and second place in singles. As the eldest sportsman of DEAC, he is an example to anyone, because he excels not only in tennis but also in fencing. Two years ago, he won a silver medal at the world championship as a member of the veteran men’s foil team.
