Researchers of agriculture from Debrecen and their counterparts from Beijing University of Agriculture (BUA) have been involved in cooperation since 1998 within the framework of bilateral scientific and technological (S&T) tenders. The focus of their research is on biological pest management of woody plants, the model plant of which is chestnut, but it can be extended to forest plants in addition to fruit bearing trees.
In order to continue the joint work in this field, the present stage of which will end in December this year, the two institutions have agreed to broaden the field of cooperation, and the corresponding letter of intent was signed by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and Zhao Feng, President of the University Council of BUA on November 9.
On this occasion, the leaders of the two universities and the experts of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management discussed and reviewed the challenges facing agriculture in the two countries as well as the research directions and scientific endeavors aimed at solving them, together with the potential points of departure for cooperation.
